Trial Access to Euromonitor Passport (Marketing Research Database) Through January 31

From now through January 31, 2014, the Cheng Library is offering trial access to Euromonitor's Passport database. Passport is a global market research database providing statistics, analysis, reports, surveys and breaking news on industries, countries and consumers worldwide.

The database connects market research to a company's goals and annual planning, analyzing market context, competitor insight, and future trends impacting businesses globally. Passport offers detailed analysis of consumer and industrial markets around the world across 781 cities, 210 countries, and 27 industries with historic data from 1997 and forecasts through 2020.

 Passport's features also include:

  • Industry analysis across fast moving consumer goods and services, including market performance, market size, company and brand shares and profiles of leading companies and brands

Trial Access to the R2 Digital Library's Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health E-Book Collection Through November 22

The R2 Digital Library is a web-based database available from Rittenhouse Book Distributors. It offers fully integrated and searchable medical, nursing and allied health source book content from key health science publishers, on a web-based platform. Content is available from publishers such as Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Delmar Cengage Learning, Wiley, The American Academy of Pediatrics and many more. Currently the platform offers 3,000 titles for purchase from more than 50 publishers.

The R2 Digital Library has many features that are valuable to users, such as customized saved searches, images, references and bookmarks, an A-Z Drug Index, and an A-Z Topic Index. Content can be browsed by category, discipline or title, and users can also perform searches across the entire platform, finding information on a topic in just two clicks.

Psychotherapy.net Trial Offers Streaming Videos on Counseling and Psychotherapy (through November 21)

From now through November 21, the Cheng Library is offering trial access to Psychotherapy.net's streaming video collection.

The database consists of over 200 titles consisting of over 300 hours of training videos - most of them demonstrations of psychotherapy and counseling sessions - featuring leading contributors to the fields of counseling, psychotherapy, psychology, and addiction.

The videos cover a wide range of modalities, populations and approaches. They are used to train a variety of mental health practitioners, from psychologists, counselors and social workers to nurses, addiction professionals and others. Each video is accompanied by a synchronized, searchable and downloadable transcript. The ability to make clips is also available, and most videos come with a downloadable instructor’s manual.

New IBISWorld Database Provides Industry Analysis and Research

The Cheng Library is pleased to announce the acquisition of the U.S. Industry Reports and iExpert Industry Summaries products from IBISWorld, available now to all students and faculty.

A specialist in industry information, IBISWorld provides research and analysis of over 700 U.S. industries and almost 4,000 product segments. Its reports are written at the 5-digit level of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) and they can be searched or browsed within the database according to NAICS code. The reports, updated regularly, provide detailed and comprehensive industry overviews, performance evaluations, an analysis of products and markets, the competitive landscape, an examination of major companies in each industry, operating conditions, and key statistics. The reports, which vary in length between approximately 30 and 50 pages, can be downloaded as complete PDF files, printed by individual section, or searched internally for key

The database also provides brief four-page summary reports for each industry covering key statistics, market share and external drivers, industry benchmarks including major markets and cost structure, an industry performance summary, and major industry issue and questions. The summary reports can also be downloaded and printed.

Trial Access to the BioOne Journals Collection Now through October 31: 176 Titles Available

BioOne, a non-profit collaborative entity founded in 1999 to provide affordable and sustainable access to scientific research, currently offers 176 scholarly journals in the biological sciences produced by 135 nonprofit society and institutional publishers from around the world. 127 of the titles in the collection are ranked by the Institute for Scientific Information (now Thomson ISI) for quality. Subject areas covered by BioOne journals include organismal biology, ecology, zoology, and environmental science, plus a wide array of sub-disciplines.

The BioOne online platform supports browsing and searching, full-text articles in both PDF and HTML format, alerts for saved searches and tables of contents, RSS feeds, a current display of the most-read and most-cited articles for each journal, and other useful features.

The Cheng Library is offering trial access to the complete collection of BioOne journals through October 31, and faculty and students are invited to use it and let us know what you think. To help you get acquainted with the database, BioOne offers a one-page Quick Start Guide (in PDF) and a brief three-minute video tutorial on searching and browsing. Links to articles in BioOne will also be accessible through our science databases, including Scopus and Biological Abstracts.

New JSTOR Arts & Sciences IV Collection Offers Expanded Journal Coverage of Education, Law, Business, and Public Policy

The Cheng Library is pleased to announce the addition of JSTOR's Arts and Sciences IV journal archive to its collection of JSTOR journals. The Arts and Sciences IV collection includes 156 titles, of which 106 are still actively adding content to the archive. Arts and Sciences IV has special strengths in the areas of education (40 titles), law (30 titles), and business (27 titles), with additional titles in political science and public policy. Among 37 titles in Arts and Sciences IV that are new to the Cheng Library's collection are the following:

The addition of the Arts and Sciences IV journal archive brings our total JSTOR holdings to nine collections, featuring 1,927 major titles going back in most cases to Volume 1, Issue 1. Of these, 1,185 titles are continuing to add archival content to the collection. Articles in JSTOR can be accessed by searching the database directly, by using citation links in any other databases that index JSTOR titles, or by searching Google Scholar (Full Text @ Cheng Library) through the Library's databases list.

Company and Industry Research Just Got Easier: Hoover’s Academic and Mergent Intellect Now Available Online

As part of our ongoing conversion of reference sources from print to online, the Cheng Library has added an online subscription to Hoover’s Academic and Mergent Intellect. The Hoover’s Academic database contains detailed proprietary information about more than 40,000 public and non-public companies, 600 industries, and 225,000 key executives, with additional information about 90 million companies worldwide. Hoover's delivers in-depth industry analyses, information on a company's location, history, products and operations, auditors, rankings, summary financials, top competitors, top officers and more. The industrial research sector of the databases is organized into 65 browsable sectors (with numerous subcategories) and supports searching by NAICS and SIC codes, with options to filter results by several criteria.

You can use Hoover’s Academic to make lists of companies using a variety of filters including location, size, rankings, industry, financial information, people, and IPO data. View basic company information, biographical information on executives, and industry reports (based on industry codes). The industry reports are from First Research. You can also search by industry and then view information on competitors within the industry. Try searching for “cellular” in the industry search box as an example. This search will lead to information on several related industries such as wireless telecommunication services, wireless telecommunication equipment manufacturing, wireless telecommunication handset manufacturing, telecommunication services, and others.

The Mergent Intellect database provides worldwide business information, including details on over 85 million companies, over 40 million executives, information on direct and indirect subsidiaries of complete global family trees, and Dun & Bradstreet research reports. The database also contains access to company annual reports (with a three-year backfile), SEC documents (10-K and 10-Q), and end-of-day securities pricing.

Trial Access to EdITLib (Digital Library for Education and Information Technology) Through April 8

Sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education, EDITLib offers a portal to aggregated, peer-reviewed research on the latest developments and applications in educational technologies and e-learning. Trial Access to VAST Streaming Video Database Through February 15

The Cheng Library is offering trial access to the VAST: Academic Video Online database through February 15. VAST, published by Alexander Street Press, is a one-stop multidisciplinary resource for streaming video covering a wide variety of academic disciplines. Subjects covered in the database include: American and world history, anthropology, area and ethnic studies, art and architecture, business and economics, counseling and therapy, criminal justice, dance, education, health, humanities, LGBT studies, opera, philosophy, politics, psychology, religion, science, theatre, women's studies, and world languages and literature. Each video comes complete with keyword-searchable, synchronized transcripts. As the video plays, the transcript scrolls, and what's being spoken is highlighted. Users can easily make custom clips, name them, and annotate them for use in course assignments.
